Georgia was well represented at The 61st Annual Grammy’s

Many artists with ties to Georgia found themselves taking home a Grammy last night. Former President and Georgia local Jimmy Carter took home a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album for his audiobook Faith – A Journey For All. This is the third win for President Carter, the first time a President has ever been able to rack up such a collection of music related accolades. Popular rapper, actor, comedian and more, Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino won Record of the Year, Best Rap/Sung Performance, Song of the Year, and Best Music Video for “This Is America”. The controversial song proved to be a big hit with audiences and the Grammy committee. Glover is known as a multitalented star in Atlanta, also creating the FX show Atlanta.

Other Atlanta rappers found success as well, including Atlanta’s own Future who won best rap alongside Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, and James Blake for the song “King’s Dead”. Mike.Will.Made.It was a songwriter on the track, and is also from Atlanta. Cardi B, who lives in Atlanta with her husband Offset of the local rap group Migos, won best rap album for “Invasion of Privacy”. Rapper 21 Savage was nominated this year, he has been considered an Atlanta native until the recent controversy surrounding his ICE arrest and potential deportation.

Atlanta sound engineers and behind the scenes artists wracked up a ton of nominations this year. Their work helped create hits by artists such as Cardi B, Janelle Monae, Backstreet Boys and more.
