The Originals will end its run after its fifth season in Spring 2018.
Executive Producer Julie Piec announced via her twitter on July 20th, that this season will be the last. “This year, we invite you to help us say goodbye to the originals, which begins shooting its fifth and final season on Monday,” Plec wrote. “It’s both a gift and a burden to be able to control the ending of a series. Many shows are not lucky enough to have a hand in deciding when the end has come.” At San Diego Comic Con, the show unveiled the teaser for its final season, shown below.
Filming in Atlanta for the last few years, The Originals is a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries, also filmed in Atlanta. The show has been filming throughout Georgia, mostly in Conyers where they had created a set to represent New Orleans. The show follows a family of vampires and their conflicts and adventures. The show stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Yusuf Gatewood and RIley Voelkel.
There are no rumors yet of another spinoff, but both shows reached decent television success.
