The hit show Atlanta on FX may rack up another award, having been nominated for four Television Critics Association awards and six Emmys.
Critics Awards nominations include Outstanding New Program, Outstanding Achievement in Comedy and even the coveted Program of the Year award. Donald Glover, creator and star of the show, is also nominated for the Individual Achievement in Comedy. The show will be going up against another local hit, Stranger Things, for the Outstanding New Program award. Hopefully Georgia will be coming home with a win in that category, regardless of which great show takes the cake. The TV Critics Association awards will be presented August 5.
In the Emmys, Atlanta’s nominations include the Comedy Series category and Casting category. Donald Glover received three nominations for comedy actor, comedy director, and comedy writer; he is up against his brother Stephen in the comedy writer category, but also for Atlanta. The Emmys air September 17.
Atlanta has already won two Golden Globes, a Peabody Award, and an American Film Institute Award. The show follows two cousins on their journey in Atlanta’s rap scene, trying to make it big in order to improve their lives and the lives of their families. Brian Tyree Henry, Keith Stanfield, and Zazie Beetz star alongside Glover in the show. Atlanta has received great feedback and reviews, earning over a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes both by critics and viewers alike.
The show is on hiatus until 2018 when Glover has completed his role as Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars film.
