Meet the new board chair of the Georgia Latino Film Alliance: Carla Berkowitz.

The mission of GALFA is to support Latino content creators and students involved in Georgia’s thriving film industry, and “as the incoming chair, my unwavering passion lies in changing the narrative and shining a spotlight on the next generation of Latino filmmakers,” explained Berkowitz.

A native Venezuelan, Berkowitz has spent more than thirty years cultivating relationships in the film industry as an executive producer and audio engineer. She is most well-known for her contributions to the movie “Critical Thinking” (2020), whose story she and partner Harvey R. Chaplin spent over twenty years developing and is directed by and stars Emmy Award-winning actor John Leguizama.

Berkowitz is celebrated for her key role in promoting change within Hollywood, pushing for more feature films that tell Latino stories. She has been widely recognized for her efforts to assist and connect creatives in the Latino community, and she will utilize her new appointment to further develop inroads and continue to create more opportunities for Latino content. When discussing this, she explains her personal goal is, “to empower and uplift these talented individuals, transforming the industry into a rich tapestry of diverse voices and perspectives,” said Berkowitz.

On the decision, GALFA President and Co-Founder Yvette Moise highlighted Carla’s extensive production experience and said, “As a wise Latina, she possesses the knowledge and expertise to open doors for our organization and our members. We are thrilled and excited about the possibilities her leadership will bring.”
