Last Chance to Submit Work to the American Youth Film Festival

Young filmmakers on the rise will have another opportunity to showcase their talent and work at the fifth annual American Youth Film Festival. The theme for the festival is “Create! Explore! Learn! Launch!”, with a call for entries still open until March 30th for any students interested in participating. This year the event will be held on June 12th through 15th at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Downtown Atlanta. The AYFF is unique in that it is open to students enrolled in elementary school through college, and allows for productions filmed on any level of device sophistication from a cell phone to professional grade equipment.

The AYFF takes notice of the great film work by young people being released on more open format mediums such as YouTube, or social media platforms. This festival allows students who have been inspired by film to see how they can generalize that passion and take their work more seriously within the scope of cinematography. Students will learn to take a hobby and turn it into a serious project, hopefully continuing to inspire them to release their creativity. The goal is to see the love of film through the eyes of the students, and help them see the potential of their interests.

To qualify for entry, the film must be created by a student (with adult supervision limited to an advisory position). Students will enter in one of four age categories based on their level of schooling.

The AYFF website has provided the following categories for submissions:

Animation – any animated movie, not more than 10 minutes
Comedy – any comedy film, not more than 10 minutes
Commercials – any 30 second commercial of local businesses
Documentary – any documentary not more than 15 minutes
Feature – any narrative film not more than 30 minutes
Music Video – any music video not more than 4 minutes
Public Service Announcements – any 30 second PSA
Science Fiction – any sci-fi film not more than 10 minutes
Short – any narrative short film not more than 15 minutes
