The ATLFF is calling for entries for the 2019 event and screenplay competition

The Atlanta Film Festival is returning in April 2019 for its 43rd year and is ready to start accepting entries. Last year the ATLFF head nearly 8,000 submissions from all of the populated continents, and 80% of the films screened came from these entries. About 200 films make it to the event each year, so make sure you submit your most groundbreaking works. They are looking for “narrative and documentary features and short films, animations, experimental films, puppetry films, music videos, virtual reality films, episodic pilots, food films and family friendly features.” Selected films will make their way in front of the average 27,000 viewers and hundreds of known filmmakers supporting independent work. The ATLFF has won numerous awards naming them as one of the top film festivals and events in Atlanta. Submissions are welcome from all types of people, and the ATLFF stresses that it “actively strives to be an inclusive showcase with spotlights on filmmakers of color, LGBTQ+ films (Pink Peach), women filmmakers (New Mavericks), family-friendly programming, Food on Film and/or experimental subjects and themes.” Prizes can also be won if your entry is selected, ranging from $500 to $1000 depending on the category.

In addition to a call for entries for the film festival screenings, the ATLFF is launching their 2019 Screenplay Competition. They are seeking “innovative and compelling storytelling, characters that surprise and challenge you, words that pop off the page, and narratives that twist and turn like a country back road.” They will be accepting scripts for features, shorts and pilots; applicants may submit for multiple categories. The top winners of the short film and pilot screenplays will win the opportunity to have a personal consultation with a industry professional who specializes in their genre. The goal is to help the winners take the next step with their script and their career. The top 3 feature screenplays win a free trip to their Screenwriter Retreat, offering them a chance to meet with industry mentors and work on their screenplay with professionals.
