ATL Street Party Documentary

Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told, a new documentary following the story of a legendary Atlanta street festival originating in the 1980’s, premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in March 2024.

Located next door to Atlanta’s four HBCUs, the festival evolved into a defining event for college students, as well as a significant part of Black history which hip-hop artists are excited to bring back to life.

Producers say that festival attendees during the 1980’s and 1990’s contributed footage for the project.

“We wanted to show the good, the bad, and the ugly, everything that is bad can fit in the place that everything is good, and I think as filmmakers and documentarians, we had to tell the whole story,” said the doc’s director, P. Frank Williams.

Although Freaknik died out in the late 90’s, “it is a Black history moment that needs to be told, and I am just proud that we are the guys that get to tell the story,” furthered Williams.
