R.L. Stine production to transform North DeKalb Mall

As previously reported, Fear Street is filming in Georgia. To recreate the 1994 time setting, the production team is using North DeKalb Mall and bringing back old stores that have since gone out of business. A blast from the past will give viewers one last look at Casual Corner, Software Etc., B. Dalton Bookseller, Musicland and Gadzooks. Following the storyline, Shadyside Ohio will represented here in Georgia as the dying NDM becomes a useful location for filmmakers. Recently low traffic malls have been a hot spot for filming, especially stories set a few decades in the past such as Stranger Things who used Gwinnett Place mall. The NDM has been used for multiple film projects previously including Watchmen and Zombieland 2.

The R.L. Stine adaptation of Fear Street is set to be a three part installment, all set to be released in close proximity. No release date is out at this time. The two female leads will be played by Kiana Madeira and Olivia Welch. Collider reported that, “Madeira and Welch will each be playing gay teenagers trying to navigate their rocky relationship when they’re targeted by the crazy horrors of their small town, Shadyside. Each actress will be playing two different characters — one in the mid-’90s, and one in the 1600s, when gay women faced even greater adversity and repercussions — and they’re both slated to appear in all three films.”
