“The Vampire Diaries,” the CW television show starring Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder, has been filming in Georgia since 2009. The show follows teenager Elena Gilbert who meets brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore. Elena soon discovers that the Salvatore brothers are vampires and her world is never the same. Although the pilot episode was filmed in Vancouver, the cast and crew quickly moved down to Georgia to take advantage of Georgia’s high tax incentives and beautiful landscapes. The show features a lot of outdoor scenes shot in Georgia’s beautiful wilderness as well as indoor scenes filmed in various areas across the state. Most filming is done in Covington, with some scenes shot in Atlanta, Monroe, and Conyers. For dedicated fans, there is even an official tour available in Covington! The “Mystic Falls Tours” is partnered with the Ian Somerhalder Foundation and runs tours that take fans behind the scenes of the show and share some juicy backstage information. But for everyone else, you can still see some of the amazing outdoor scenery that is so prominent in the show. The show has just begun filming for its fifth season and is still filming in Georgia.
