The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival is back in 2017, and has released its full lineup with more screenings than ever before.
Starting on January 24th, AJFF will providing 23 days of over 200 screenings, with over 70 films from 24 different countries to serve the approximately 40,000 attendees, with multiple post-film question sessions featuring actors, film creators and experts. Screenings and Q&A sessions will take place in multiple venues across Atlanta, hoping to reach a diverse viewing audience.
The festival celebrates films with Jewish and Israeli themes meant to inspire audience members of all backgrounds. There will be content for all types of film fans, whether it be fans of comedy, sports, or historical narratives. Kenny Black, executive director of the AJFF explained that they “are proud to continue a 17-year tradition of excellence by bringing audiences the most compelling, diverse, high-caliber films from around the globe… This cultural celebration of foreign and independent film will inspire, entertain, challenge and provoke. These are films that touch the heart and expand the mind, and speak to moviegoers of all backgrounds.”
Screenings will be accompanied by numerous guest speakers, including actor Mark Linn-Baker, former comedian Jerry Farber, actress Linda Thorson, Olympian Terrance Trammell, and gay rights activist Evan Wolfson. A full list can be found at the AJFF official website.
The festival’s main venue location will continue to be the Lefont Sandy Springs Theater, with numerous other theaters hosting films (see below). Opening night will take place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, beginning with the special screening of the true story Alone in Berlin. Closing night will return to the Atlanta Symphony Hall following the three weeks of screenings.
