Selma, a movie about the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by Martin Luther King, Jr. and others, comes out this Friday. Though the movie has been out on limited release since Christmas day in cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Atlanta, it will be shown to all of the US and Canada starting January 9th. The movie has already garnered major buzz with its four Golden Globe Award nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director.

The name of the movie comes from Selma, Alabama in which the story take place, but much of the filming was done in Georgia. Filming took place around the Marietta Square, Rockdale County Courthouse in Conyers, and various streets in Newton County, Georgia.

The film has received acclaim from many critics with a current Rotten Tomatoes score of 100% and 91% from Metacritic. It has also been nominated for six Georgia Film Critics Association award and five Critics’ Choice Movie Award nominations.
