The Savannah College of Art and Design is eager to host their annual AnimationFest at their new SCADShow location in midtown Atlanta for the first time. Since 2013, SCADshow has been home to all of SCAD’s signature events, and the new venue is primed to host with a 700-seat theater, a more intimate 150-seat theater, and a courtyard for outdoor performances.

“As the nation’s biggest and best festival celebrating student animators and industry trends, SCAD AnimationFest shines in three-dimensional wonder—especially true this year, as SCAD unveils our state-of-the-art, 700-seat theater in the heart of Midtown,” said Paula Wallace, SCAD president and founder. “This screen is as colossal as SCAD’s student talent. It’s the perfect stage for the world premiere of The Last Dungeon, the latest triumph from SCAD Animation Studios, and a collaborative marvel from more than forty SCAD Bees. Truly a masterpiece in motion!”

This year’s event, occurring September 28-30, 2023, will feature panels from high-ranking creatives at Netflix, FOX, Animal Repair Shop, Crafty Apes, Artie, FuseFX, Gearbox, Cartoon Network Studios, and Viva Kids as well as SCAD alumni who work on the front-line of animation.

One keynote speaker will also be recognized for the “Outstanding Achievement in Animation” award – Theodore “Ted” Ty, the global head of animation at DNEG – and give a look behind the curtain at Netflix’s new movie, Nimona.

Every year, SCAD puts their “Spotlight Award’ on a member of the animation industry whose creative efforts have changed the game. This year’s Spotlight will be awarded to Adam Muto before a special screening of his new project, Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake

Attendees can also get an exclusive peek at Krapopolis, a sitcom produced by Dan Harmon releasing later this year, and members of the show’s production team will be available to answer questions.

“SCAD AnimationFest explores how technology is evolving beyond traditional definitions of animation to develop new and innovative transmedia storytelling,” explained Leigh Seaman, senior executive director at SCADFILM. “As a top-ranked program in animation, interactive design and game development, visual effects, motion media, illustration, and more, SCAD is uniquely qualified to host the best in the industry as presenters and mentors.”

Festival and screening passes are still available for purchase if you haven’t secured your ticket yet!.
