A movie starring and executive produced by Queen Latifah is filming in Georgia this week, according to officials.
Bonnie Hayes, tourism manager with the city of Thomasville, told WFXL Fox News that “Tiger Rising,” which stars Latifah and Dennis Quaid, is shooting in various areas in Thomasville and Tifton. Thomasville is about three hours from metro Atlanta.
Filming began Monday and is expected to go until Dec. 20, Hayes told the news station.
Thomasville native Allen Cheney serves as one of the producers for the movie, and he was excited to bring the filming to his hometown.
“So, when it came time to do that, it was natural for me to say Thomasville, Thomasville pictures,” Cheney told the station. “I want this one to be my brand. This one’s special because of the team around me; they’re more like a family, and most of all where we’re getting to film this. This one is a gift.”
Quaid and newcomer Madalen Mills are set to co-star opposite Queen Latifah in “The Tiger Rising,” a film adaptation to Kate DiCamillo’s 2001 New York Times best-selling children’s book, according to Deadline. Ray Giarratana is directing the film.
“Tiger Rising” follows 12-year-old Rob, who starts a new life in rural Florida at a hotel and lets his imagination run wild. The imaginary world contrasts his actual life, which includes overcoming the grief of his mom’s death and bullying at school.
