The takeover of Time Warner by AT&T brings jobs to Atlanta

After the takeover last month of Time Warner by AT&T some major changes are coming. The deal cost AT&T a massive $85 billion, allowing them to acquire major household name networks that have been an institution in Atlanta for many years. This restructuring means that HBO is now a part of AT&T’s WarnerMedia. While this deal is detrimental to the careers of some as the Long Island HBO facility closes, the new deal also means that HBO will be transferring about 125 jobs from New York to Atlanta with some restructuring taking place in the companies. The WarnerMedia has reportedly hired the former NBC head Bob Greenblatt to take the position of chairman of entertainment and streaming, thus having oversight over HBO, TNT, TBS and TruTV.

Reports from HBO’s statement last month explain that “With two new state-of-the-art facilities now existing in Hudson Yards and Atlanta, the services out of the Hauppauge Communications Center will become redundant so the plan is to close the center by year’s end. We are asking many employees from the Long Island-based departments to transition to Hudson Yards, which has been designed to support post-production needs on original programming as well as our digital distribution platforms. However, the broadcast operations which originated out of Hauppauge will now come out of Atlanta. This will result in the elimination of some positions in New York.”
