The Georgia Technical College (GTC) has officially opened a three story, $42 million building dedicated to eSports, cybersecurity, and computer information systems. Classes are currently underway using the new facility’s 29 classrooms, spanning 82,00 square feet.
“We’re not only trying to bring things up to what students’ expectations are for college, but it’s also bringing up where we can deliver these programs in a setting that’s more conducive to that kind of instruction and that kind of real-life activity,” explained GTC President, Glenn Cannon. “… That gives employers a good sense of what kind of programs we’re running and the kind of employees they’re going to get. But we had been doing it in makeshift spaces.”
With the renovations complete, GTC is now looking to become one of the country’s best two-year/technical colleges by shifting their focus to new trends in the technological environment.
“There are three areas we’re looking at for the future, two related to the new building, and we already have infrastructure ready to ramp up,” added Cannon. “We’re looking at Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality. Those are weaving together now and are coming on rapidly. The other next big thing is Electric Vehicles. You’re already seeing that in automotive programs. We’re getting ready to ramp up. When the need is there. We’ll be ready to meet it.”
