Three cities in Georgia—Atlanta, Athens, and Savannah—have been shortlisted as a potential new home for the legendary Sundance Film Festival.
“The real battle here is going to come down to Utah and Atlanta,” explained Deadline’s Executive Editor, Dominic Patten. “Atlanta – with all of the money it can present, with all of the venues it can present, with all of the opportunities it can present – already has an advantage over many cities. It’s one that Hollywood is familiar with.”
Considering Sundance generated over $100 million in revenue last year, Utah is expected to put up a strong fight to retain the iconic festival.
Other locations on the shortlist include Santa Fe in New Mexico, San Francisco, as well as areas in upstate New York and North Carolina.
Candidate cities have a June 7 deadline to submit their pitches, and the expectation is that the winner will be revealed at the conclusion of the 2025 festival.
