Dragon Con, the science fiction, fantasy and pop culture convention, will not be held in person for the first time in 34 years. The convention was scheduled for September 3rd and projected to bring around 90,000 people to downtown Atlanta.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Dragon Con will instead hold a virtual convention free to all and featuring classic panels and original programming. Details about the livestream will be released in the upcoming weeks.

“After an exhaustive attempt to organize a much smaller, more focused, and socially distanced convention, it became apparent that we could not, in good faith, move forward with our 2020 event,” convention Co-Chair Rachel Reeves said. “We are heartbroken and did not make this decision lightly. Above all else, we want to thank our fans, our hotel partners, the ACVB and the city of Atlanta for their support over these past few months.”

Dragon Con’s 2021 dates are already set and ready for an epic return. The five-day event will take place from September 2 to September 6, 2021.

Fans who have purchased tickets for this year’s conventions can exchange them for a 2021 pass or seek a refund. Both options are available at dragoncon.org.
