A new film degree opportunity to be available at Columbus State University

A vote by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents has approved the first ever nexus degree in film production at CSU. The program is expected to be a 60 credit-hour degree the will begin in the semester of Spring 2019. The program has been created in response to the high demand for well trained film industry professionals due to the huge increase of Georgia production. After the successful launch of the Georgia Film Academy in 2016 based on the same goal, a partnership between these programs has been made. They hope to offer students opportunities on some of the many locally filmed projects, and to boost filming in Columbus.

The curriculum requires 42 general education credit hours, along with 12 hours in upper coursework focusing on film industry skills, and 6 credit hours of experiential hands-on learning. This is in congruence with the nexus style degree which focused on practical application of skills within an industry. Governor Nathan Deal has approved free tuition to certain technical colleges, and film production is an approved category.
