Dreamhack, a gaming experience and festival, has officially announced the addition of a COD Mobile World Championship at their Atlanta event on December 15, 2023. As a free-to-play game, COD Mobile has north of 500 million users making it one of the most played mobile games of all time. The tournament will welcome sixteen of the best teams in the world as they descend on the Georgia World Congress Center to compete for a chunk of the $1 million prize pool.
“This is a critical moment for some of the world’s best squads, and we’re excited to be able to showcase the peak of mobile competition to a diverse audience of diehard mobile fans and casual festival attendees,” said the Activision head of mobile gaming, Jeff Gullet.
This news follows Dreamhack’s announcement that Guy Blomberg will become the new Event Director of the Americas. Blomberg has been running events for ReedPop for the last several years, and his resume also includes directing events like E3, EGX, PAX, and Comic-Con among others. Using the insight he has gained from his extensive experience in the gaming environment, Blomberg also serves as the Board Director of the International Game Developers Association and is the Founder of Games Industry Gathering.
“DreamHack is such an established and beloved brand, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to take the reins of its North American festivals,” said Blomberg. “It’s been a weird time for gaming events around the world the last few years, but it’s clear just how important it still is for the community to be able to get together in person and celebrate their passion.”
Alongside the COD Mobile tournament, Dreamhack’s usual programming showcases bring-your-own-computer LAN parties, cosplaying, art exhibits, live music, and a wide variety of other gaming tournaments. Furthermore, the event has already announced the dates for Dreamhack Atlanta 2024, on October 4-6.
