Although Atlanta made a fine run, Sundance Film Festival recently announced that only three cities remain in the search for its next home: Salt Lake City/Park City, Utah (the festival’s current home), Cincinnati, Ohio, and Boulder, Colorado.
“Little disappointed because it would have been a game changer for Atlanta,” said Christopher Esobar, owner of the Plaza Theater. “At the same time, we were beating the odds, as we beat 84 other cities to be in the running.”
While an upset could still happen, many believe that the iconic film festival will remain in Utah for the foreseeable future. Sundance may have an interest in evaluating what the festival would look like in another city, but Park City has been its home for forty-six years, making it hard to imagine anywhere else.
“We are not at a loss for film festivals here,” added Escobar. “There are always outlets for students and our local talent to showcase their work and make industry connections.”
