The Georgia Capitol hosted a celebration of another successful film year in Georgia

People of all positions connected to the film and television industry gathered at the Georgia Capitol last month, in celebration of the state’s continued success in entertainment. Looking back at the impact of growth, we see a nearly $10 billion economic impact on Georgia in just one year, between 2016 and 2017. The growth is also responsible for adding over 90,000 jobs, about one-third of which employed Georgia residents. This increased take-home wages in Georgia by nearly $5 billion.

To participate in the economic celebration, Commissioner Pat Wilson of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Rep. Ron Stephens (R-Savannah); and Lee Wilson, deputy commissioner of the Georgia Film office, gave talks at the event. Wilson noted that Georgia has seen more growth than any other film production state in the last decade. Although Wilson credited Gov. Nathan Deal as a driving force behind that growth, Deal did not show up for his scheduled speech. Hundreds were in attendance, many of whom have been impacted by the industry’s growth and who revel in knowing that it’s future looks even brighter.
