The Duff, which hit theatres February 20th, is a teen-comedy based on a novel by Kody Keplinger. The story revolves around a teenage girl, Bianca, striving to conform to societies notion of beauty. The star of the football team, Wes, tells Bianca that she is the “DUFF” of her friends – Designated Ugly Fat Friend.

Filming took place in Atlanta over the past summer. The movie took over Grady High School and transformed it into the film’s “Malloy High School.”

The Duff director, Ari Sandel, praised Atlanta for everything, except the Georgia summer heat. “This was the first time I’ve ever shot in Atlanta. It was an overall great experience. The only thing that was rough was coming to the hot Atlanta humidity. I was nothing but amazed at how vibrant and how complex the [film] industry was in Atlanta.” Producer, Susan Cartsonis, said “The filming experience in Atlanta was fantastic. It can look like so many different places.”
