Mockingjay Part II Still Hungry for More?
By Oz Online | Published on November 22, 2015

The last installment of the ‘Hunger Games’ hit theaters this weekend, but the numbers were less than expected.

While the ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2’ came out on top of the box office at $101 million compared to Seth Rogen’s ‘The Night Before’ at $10.1 million and Julia Roberts comeback film ‘Secret in their Eyes’ bringing in only $6.6 million, ‘Mockingjay Part 2’ was a record low for the franchise.

According to The Wrap, the film came in nearly $20 million under ‘Mockingjay Part 1’ and an astonishing $50 million under ‘Hunger Games’ and ‘Catching Fire’ in the domestic box office. Project Casting posted an article on why the finale of the series hit so low, and it may be because of the negative comments surrounding JLaw’s quest for more money.

However, the film is seemingly off to a good start in the international box office where it opened at Number 1 in 84 of 89 markets. The overall global total for the opening weekend was $251 million. Even though this a substantial box office hit, it was lower than expected; although, international box offices may have been affected by recent threats and last week’s bombing in Paris.

The ‘Hunger Games’ franchise filmed 3 out of 4 films here in Georgia, and has since inspired other big films to bring their projects here.
